What's a Rich Text element?

The rich text element allows you to create and format headings, paragraphs, blockquotes, images, and video all in one place instead of having to add and format them individually. Just double-click and easily create content.

Static and dynamic content editing

A rich text element can be used with static or dynamic content. For static content, just drop it into any page and start editing. For dynamic content, add a rich text field to any collection and then connect a rich text element to that field in the settings panel. Voila!

How to customize formatting for each rich text

Headings, paragraphs, blockquotes, figures, images, and figure captions can all be styled after a class is added to the rich text element using the "When inside of" nested selector system.

Iron deficiency - values and causes

Iron deficiency in the body is a relatively common condition, but which for some has troublesome symptoms. It can be difficult to see the connection between these and the uptake of iron. Check your uptake of iron with Tigeni !

What does iron do in the body?

Iron is one of the most important nutrients we need - it is actually absolutely vital. Iron ensures that oxygen is transported around the body. Although iron is present in several organs, it is vital as a constituent of hemoglobin (Source: SML ). Hemoglobin binds oxygen to the red blood cells to carry oxygen where it is needed.

Iron is needed to carry oxygen to the red blood cells. Iron also means that all the body's organs and parts can function optimally, in addition to being an important contributor to a good immune system.

The uptake of iron

Iron is absorbed through diet. What we eat and the composition of the nutrients we ingest affect the amount of iron that carries oxygen. Absorption of iron and the balance of how much is absorbed into the bloodstream at any given time is also affected by how much the body needs. What the body needs is based on how much one already has and the percentage of red blood cell production.

A balancing act

The level of iron is adjusted slightly up and down from day to day. Nevertheless, these changes are very minimal. The iron breaks down slowly, but you lose one to two milligrams a day which must be replaced through diet or iron supplements. It is also possible with too much iron. This is called excess iron and occurs when "free iron" precipitates in the cells and damages the cells' structure and function.

Sources of iron

The absorption of iron through diet takes place by consuming animal products, grains or legumes. Meat is a good source of iron, but Norwegians get the most iron through bread. Grain-based products account for 35% of the iron we get through food. Legumes and vegetables, such as lentils, peas, broccoli, spinach and beans, are also iron-rich foods that help prevent iron deficiency.

What prevents iron absorption?

You can even influence the absorption of iron from food. Vitamin C increases absorption, so a glass of orange juice or a citrus fruit for breakfast and lunch is good. On the other hand, coffee, tea, milk and wine - which are often consumed with iron-rich meals - contain substances that slow down the absorption of iron in the body.

Not everyone satisfies the iron requirement through diet

For most people, iron deficiency is prevented through a good diet. However, there are some groups that are unable to meet the iron requirement via the food route. The risk groups for iron deficiency are those with low energy intake:

  • Infants and toddlers
  • Older
  • Those who lose weight

And those with high iron requirements:

  • Young people growing fast
  • Pregnant
  • Blood donors

It is especially important for the risk groups to make sure that they get enough iron. If you are wondering if you suffer from iron deficiency, you can easily take a blood sample Tigeni and get answers quickly - completely digitally.

Signs of iron deficiency

It can be difficult to detect that you have too little iron in your body or that the absorption of iron is not completely optimal. This is often because the symptoms appear vague, less bothersome, random and unrelated. Helsenorge lists the following common symptoms of iron deficiency:

  • Fatigue, dizziness or lightheadedness
  • Shortness of breath on exertion
  • Sore tongue
  • Pale skin
  • Unusual craving for non-food substances, such as soil, ice, paint or clay (pica syndrome).
  • Thin and curved nails
  • Reduced muscle performance
  • Restless legs syndrome: An irresistible urge to move the legs to divert from unpleasant feelings such as itching and the like.

Treatment

For most people, iron deficiency is a condition that will usually improve fairly quickly with iron supplements that increase the body's iron stores and provide more stable values. It should be mentioned, however, that for some it may also be necessary with injections of iron - and in the extreme consequence treatment with blood transfusion.

Iron deficiency anemia

Iron deficiency is a common cause of anemia (low blood percentage). Anemia is a condition in which the blood has too few red blood cells. Although there can be several causes of anemia, such as vitamin B12 or folate deficiency, iron deficiency is the most common and widespread cause worldwide.

Development of anemia can be very slow and or be relatively mild. This means that you do not necessarily experience symptoms of iron deficiency or consider the symptoms as "morbid".
